For medieval man heaven was a concrete reality. Belief in the afterlife was self-evident and intense in a way that is difficult to imagine for modern man who knows heaven sooner from booktitles, songs, figures of speech or advertisements than from every-day experience. The contributions to this volume of proceedings, however, deal with the question how in the late-medieval and early-modern period the idealized image of heaven influenced life, society and art. The various essays deal with the impact of this idealism on politics and society (ruler, state, education, theocracy), on religious practice (poor relief, pilgrimage), and on different art forms (Meistergesang, religious song, and allegorical poetry). The volume contains six German and three English contributions.

Download or read book Night on Earth written by Davide Rodogno and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-09 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Night on Earth is a broad-ranging account of international humanitarian programs in Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the Near East from 1918 to 1930. Davide Rodogno shows that international 'relief' and 'development' were intertwined long before the birth of the United Nations with humanitarians operating in a region devastated by war and famine and in which state sovereignty was deficient. Influenced by colonial motivations and ideologies these humanitarians attempted to reshape entire communities and nations through reconstruction and rehabilitation programmes. The book draws on the activities of a wide range of secular and religious organisations and philanthropic foundations in the US and Europe including the American Relief Administration, the American Red Cross, the Quakers, Save the Children, the Near East Relief, the American Women's Hospitals, the League of Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Download or read book The Universal Perspective of Humankind on Earth written by Yomon and published by Clay Road Press. This book was released on 2016-01-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As your fictional aliens often say, I come in peace. In fact, peace, or lack thereof in your society, is the main reason I feel compelled to contact you at this time. Hailing from "a small planet" in the Sombrero Galaxy, Yomon is an interstellar traveler, observer, and "fan" of human culture who has become the Universal community's leading expert on humankind. After observing human culture for approximately 100 Earth years, Yomon believes humankind has the potential to make significant cultural contributions to the greater society of Universe—if it doesn't destroy itself first. With humankind's Voyager 1 space probe on its way to exiting Sol with a message to the Universal community, Yomon responds with this "report" titled The Universal Perspective of Humankind on Earth to inform humankind that there is a greater society of intelligent beings but that it must get its act together if it wants to be a part of it. The report also doubles as a comprehensive entry into "The Database" to provide the Universal community "highly detailed insight into the unique culture of this species through the attempted use of its own vernacular". Peace, freedom, limitless energy, thousand year life spans, free real estate, and relief from the deadly stresses of overcrowding on Earth are all possible if humankind learns to adhere to The Universal Law of Freedom. In order to comply, humankind must end oppression and violence in its society and allow all beings to live freely and peacefully. At the very least, humankind must stop fighting each other and start working together to achieve peace or face inevitable extinction. Yomon's view of humankind is brutally honest, unflattering, appreciative, humorous, and revealing of the frustration one feels towards another who has great potential but is not willing to make the effort to fulfill it. Yomon's unique perspective is visualized with illustrations, and the report concludes with "The Universal Law of Freedom and the Ten Precepts of Peace", a list of ideas meant to help human individuals comply with The Universal Law of Freedom in the course of their daily lives. Above all, The Universal Perspective of Humankind on Earth is an impassioned and entertaining plea to humankind to get its act together and join the rest of the civilized Universal society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: King David has an important role in the Old and New Testaments and huge impact on the nation of Israel. The Father witnessed and said about David, “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart.” (Acts 13:22) The Lord Jesus, Son of David, witnessed, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying ...” (Matthew 22:43) The Holy Bible said about him, “Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the Lord is with him.” (1 Samuel 16:18) A great man like that, who went through a lot in his life from being uncounted among his brothers to become a king of all Israel, who experienced distress, joy, victory, defeat, with a heart after God’s heart—it is worthy to know how he, by the Holy Spirit, expressed all these feelings and put them in the psalms. This book will search that heart to bring out of his treasure things new and old. (Matthew 13:52)

The book describes the real truths of Global Warming is mainly caused by man’s unnecessary destruction of natural resources earth depends on to be in a good condition to successfully complete its next evolution cycle. The book explains the importance of the cycles and what evolutionary changes occurred on earth. Many previous unexplained phenomena could be linked to earth’s evolutionary cycles. The extinction of the dinosaur, the birth of the Grand Canyon: why has no large object recently collided with the Moon when millions of craters exist on the Moon? Why has the impacts stopped and when will the impacts start happening again? These and other fascinating examples of unsolved phenomena will open the minds of many readers to this new dimension of thinking what happened on earth millions of years ago and whether earth will survive the next evolutionary cycle. Global Warming has caused a negative effect on earth natural defense mechanism earth depends on to survive the severe challenges when close to the core of the Milky Way Galaxy. About the Author Graham Winston’s professional experience spans over 20 years and involves solving complex problems. To achieve success in these business fields Winston solved many complex problems.
