A collection like this could be placed in hospitals, hospices, churches, or waiting rooms in doctor's offices." -Fr. Barry Martinson, S.J. "What human reflections and wonderful expressions of pastoral care. Poems about her brother are very special. I am touched by her gentle spirit." -MaryLee Buess, Chaplain, Sharp Mary Birch Hospital, San Diego, California "For many years I have rejoiced in Josie's words, and the pauses between the words, which bring resonance to my own life experiences." -Fr. Bernard F.Cassidy, S.J., St. Francis Hospice, Honolulu, Hawaii "As a pediatric hospice nurse, I could relate so well to these poems. It is an honor to be able to work with families who are going through this journey with their child. Josie captured so well the feelings of these families and children. May you all share this experience through her poetry." -Karalee Davis, R.N.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heart Room and Hyacinths: A Wordsmith's Journal of Joy is author Dori Jeanine Somers's life story an epic poem set in a world of change and a journey of chosen joys and myriad gifts. In this memoir, Somers shares her life story, interspersed with poetry she has written over the years. She traces the history of herself and her family, from her childhood to her grandchildren, recalling important events along the way and the wisdom she gained from them. None of the things she has learned along the way is new or startling. They are the truths she knew, but didn't know she knew, until she gave them form upon the page. These discoveries might be the same for anyone something held in the heart, sometimes completely unnoticed. The thoughts written here serve as simple reminders of your own inner wisdom, glimmers of your own special light. Dive into that pool of light, warmed in the glow of the messages here, and make any words that brighten the day a part of an inner glow.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is about finding that spark that motivates you. It’s seeking your purpose and pursuing it relentlessly. Every day you want to be a little better than you were yesterday. Rooms in Our Heart is a collection of insightful inspirational writings and thoughts about life, love, and other circumstances we all deal with in life. It is a collection of thought-provoking words written from the heart and mind of the author whose view of life goes beyond life’s superficial surface. Life is not always about what we accomplish but what we overcome to get through every day. Having someone in your life who cares enough to want to help, but expects nothing in return, can be inspiring, motivating, and uplifting. Sometimes, wisdom doesn’t come from age or even experiences. It comes from someone who cares enough to open the rooms in their heart and let what’s within help inspire you in life. The Rooms in Our Heart are there in each of us. The key to unlocking each of them is but a moment away, waiting in life to be experienced and opened widely to bring to life yet again a memory we need today.

Book excerpt: The Sleeping King is the start of a new fantasy series by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Cindy Dees. Dees has won a Golden Heart Award, two RITAs for Category Suspense and Adventure and has also twice snared RT's Series Romantic Suspense of the Year. She is a great storyteller, and the adventures in her more than fifty novels are often inspired by her own life. Dees is an Air Force vet-the youngest female pilot in Air Force history-and fought in the first Gulf War. She's had amazing adventures, and she's used her experiences to tell some kickass stories. But as much as she love romances, Cindy's other passion has been fantasy gaming. For almost twenty years she's been involved with Dragon Crest, one of the original live action role-playing games. She's the story content creator on the game, and wanted to do an epic fantasy based on it, with the blessing and input of Dragon Crest founder Bill Flippin. The Sleeping King is the first in an epic fantasy series, featuring the best of the genre: near immortal imperial overlords, a prophecy of a sleeping elven king who's said to be the savior of the races . . . and two young people who are set on a path to save the day. I know he hasn’t always been this way—after all, we were once best friends, but when our friendship ended, I watched from the sidelines as he made a series of bad choices, and left dozens of broken hearts in his wake. He has the looks, the charm, the girls, and as an elite football player, he’s heading off to college months earlier than anyone expected. I need to stay in Alpen Springs, to continue to train for the Olympics. My timing might not be perfect, but I need to fix things with us, and if the fire in his eyes is any indication, nothing, including our clothes, will be immune to its heat. I don’t stand a chance of resisting. Conflicting goals and distance be damned . . . I am about to entrust my heart to my ex-best friend who is known for breaking them.

This book was released on 2005-02-14 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Research in the field of exercise therapy for cancer patients primarily focused on individuals with breast cancer who receive exercise interventions under outpatient conditions. This research study investigated individuals with colorectal cancer under inpatient conditions and aimed to broaden the application of exercise intervention treatments beyond that of breast cancer. The research included two study groups; standard exercise group (SEG, n=44) receiving indoor gymnastic exercise (IGE) and modified exercise group (MEG, n=39) receiving IGE plus additional outdoor walking activity. Participation in the specific exercise therapy program was independent of other therapies received in the inpatient rehabilitation program (IRP). The patients completed QOL questionnaires (QLQ-C30 & QLQ-CR38), psychological distress scale (HADS) and underwent treadmill stress-testing (TST) at the beginning (T1) and upon completion (T2) of the IRP. The QOL and the HADS questionnaires were administrated after a six month follow up (T3) proceeding the IRP completion. Results indicate significant QOL and HADS improvements in pre to post-testing for both study groups. The TST results indicate superior improvements in the MEG in comparison to the SEG. Some of the T1 to T2 QOL and HADS improvement maintained at T3. We conclude that 3 weeks IRP was adequate to reveal improvements in QOL, psychological measures and functional capacity. Future research should emphasize patient motivation for participation in physical activity after completing IRP. This background chapter encompasses the different fields of knowledge which are relevant to the present study, starting with colorectal cancer (epidemiology, etiology, pathology and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health), continuing with the subjects Quality of life, Movement and Sports in the Rehabilitation. The chapter ends with a review of previous physical activity and cancer studies. Descriptive epidemiological knowledge of colorectal cancer is essential for understanding the etiology of the disease and is used in the process of developing screening methods. Large bowel carcinoma is one of the most common cancers in the western world (15% of all cancer cases) and despite advanced diagnostic and therapeutic methods, the prognosis is relatively poor (Faivre et al. 2002). The WHO classification supplies the mortality data of colon cancer separately from rectum cancer. [...]
